How Can Nu Beginnings Help Me With My Patients?
Morbid Obesity is a medical condition where body weight has exceeded healthy limits and produces life-limiting problems. The National Institute of Health recognizes that morbid obesity is a major health concern affecting millions of patients in the United States. Morbid obesity leads to health problems such as sleep apnea, lung disorders, diabetes, bladder stress incontinence, heartburn, hernias, arthritis, spine problems, heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression, cancer and many others. Overall, medical conditions are more difficult to treat and the risk of dying from emergency situations or from surgeries is higher.
For these reasons, it is recognized that patients who are morbidly obese have a statistically shorter life span; in fact, obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death.
Nu Beginnings is an evidence-based, multi-disciplinary weight treatment program in North and South Dallas, serving obese patients since 2003. Our team of physicians, behaviorists, dieticians, therapists and exercise physiologists work
to help obese patients lose and maintain their weight.
The weight management program at Nu Beginnings is designed to help your patients reduce obesity "risk factors" and help improve their chances to live a long and healthful life through lifetime disease management. We have outlined three simple yet effective action steps all health care providers can implement immediately.
Nu Beginnings three action steps:
Always calculate your patient’s BMI/BFI during regular examinations. If your staff would like to learn or requires the equipment to do so, let us know. We will gladly show and supply you with the necessary tools.

1.
As a stand alone conservative management program for obesity involving dietary, behavioral and exercise therapy.
2.
As a qualifying program to assist in the precertification process for bariatric surgery such as gastric bypass or adjustable gastric banding.
3.
As a preoperative and postoperative bariatric support program with a multidisciplinary approach involving dietary, exercise, behavioral interventions to complement the surgery and improve overall long term clinical outcomes.
